Branding, UI/UX Design

criticle is a feedback based app designed for students.

Through research, I realized that SCAD students are career-driven individuals who enjoy receiving feedback from others to improve the quality of their work. With that in mind, sometimes it is difficult to receive good feedback from those outside one's major. After identifying that problem, I came up with criticle.

How does it work?

Post your work

Take pictures, screenshots, or videos of your work and upload them to criticle on your phone.

Receive crits

criticle emphasizes interactions with students both from your major and from other disciplines, so you can receive a range of feedback on how to improve your work.

Give crits

Give feedback on your impression of the work and how you think it could be improved. Ideas are upvoted and downvoted by users based on quality.

Target Users

Martin is a new college student and wants to know his professors’ expectations better. He uploads his work to see what students who have taken his drawing professor in the past have to say about his work.

Jennifer graduated from the illustration department at SCAD, but enjoys spending time on criticle giving feedback to undergrad students in illustration. She can also receive feedback on her MFA work in Graphic Design.

Alex is a Service Design student working on his final project for a class. Because he needs it to be accessible to as many people as possible, he asks criticle users from all majors to comment.

Process

High Level Insights

1. STUDENTS ARE CAREER ORIENTED.

2. STUDENTS BENEFIT FROM CROSS-MAJOR FEEDBACK

3. STUDENTS BENEFIT FROM INTERACTING WITH THOSE WITH PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE

I designed the app to be visually sleek and exciting. I chose a monochrome color scheme and gave it a splash of blue to give it some personality.

I mocked up some screens in Illustrator. The next step will be prototyping, and then Heuristic Evaluations from designer friends, followed by user testing. Then I'd like to pitch the app to SCAD to see if we can make it a reality.
